Materna Premium Stage 2
For Infants 6-12 months old

Between 6 and 12 months, there is a change in the baby's nutritional needs. The increase in body weight requires more energy, more protein, more calcium and iron, as well as more vitamins.
The nutrition at age 6-12 months will affect the baby's nutritional habits in the course of his life.
From the age of 6 months the baby is more exposed to weaning foods, and when he reaches the age of 12 months he can eat diversified foods just like other members of his family. At this age mother's milk or its substitute constitutes the basic food.
Materna Premium Stage 2 is scientifically designed so that in combination with weaning foods it complements the baby's nutritional requirements at this stage of his life, and is in accordance with the developments of the kidney's activity at this age. An optimal supplement of food constituents is of utmost importance.

It is recommends to feed babies with mother's milk or its substitutes at least until the age of 1 year. Cow's milk differs from mother's milk.

    Cow's milk is:

  1. Too rich in protein.
  2. Contains too much sodium, phosphorus, potassium and other electrolytes which put too much load on the baby's kidneys.
  3. Very poor in iron.
  4. Very poor in essential fatty acids (linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids), which are precursors of
LC-PUFA - type DHA and Arachidonic.
  5. Very poor in vitamins, especially antioxidant vitamins (C and E) and vitamins of the B complex.
  6. Poor in trace elements.
  7. May cause allergy and gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, bleeding).

Studies have demonstrated that babies fed with cow's milk in the first year of their life were at risk of depletion of their iron reserves and anemia, and suffered from intestinal bleeding and occult blood in the stools.

Materna Premium Stage 2 corresponds with the recommendations of the International Health Organizations for mother's milk substitutes for babies age 6 months and follow-on.

Nutritional Data

More energy: 72 Kcal/lOOml

The rapid growth continues, and the baby becomes more active. He needs more energy for growth and activity. The correct ration between the various energy sources is very important:
Protein 15.5%
Fat 39%
Carbohydrates 45.5%

Protein: Not too much, not too little: 2.8 gram/lOOml

The increase in body weight causes increase in the daily requirements of Protein from age 6 months.
Weaning foods are usually poor in high nutritional value protein. Materna Premium Stage 2 contains protein similar in its composition to that of mother's milk: Lactalbumin/caseain 60/40.
Materna Premium Stage 2 contains sufficient protein to supply the recommended daily allowance, and not too much, so that there is no extra load on the kidneys.

More Calcium: 85mg/l00ml. More Phosphorus: 43mg/l00ml

The rapid growth requires calcium and phosphorus supplements for the optimal development of the skeleton and bones. Materna Premium Stage 2 combined with weaning foods provides the required daily allowance of calcium and phosphorus without putting a load on the kidneys and without impairing the absorption of iron.
The calcium/Phosphorus ratio is - 2:1 respectively.

Iron - 1.2mg/l00ml

Materna Premium Stage 2 contains iron in quantities which supply the needs of the infant in his early months of life, according to the Recommended Daily Allowance:
1 mg/kg body weight. The infant is born with iron reserves for the first months, and the iron supplement in Materna Premium Stage 2 is sufficient for keeping a high iron status without causing abdominal cramps. The addition of vitamin C enhances iron absorption.

Vitamins

Materna Premium Stage 2 contains an increased quantity of the B Complex vitamins. These vitamins participate in metabolic processes. The increase in body weight and the exposure to weaning foods, which are not vitamin-enriched, increase the vitamins requirements.
